WESTWOOD GALLERY NYC is a contemporary art gallery, established in 1995 in SoHo, New York City. The gallery represents prominent historic artist and photographer estates as well as contemporary artists working in diverse media.


James Cavello, gallery President, has curated many first-time and never-before-seen exhibitions of photography, which present a diverse view of the world by leading photographers. In numerous instances, the exhibitions included photographs often not seen for decades. The gallery continues to present innovative exhibitions of forgotten or under represented bodies of work by extraordinary photographers.


Gallery exhibitions have been reviewed by The New York Times, Art in America, ARTnews, The Art Newspaper, artnet, The New Yorker, Artforum, CNN, PBS, ABC, NBC, CBS, WPIX, WWOR, NPR, NBC, NY1, The Miami Herald, the San Francisco Chronicle, The New York Observer, The Huffington Post, Art Nexus, the International Herald Tribune, Vogue, Hasselblad, Cosmopolitan, Le Figaro, Village Voice, Vogue Japan, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, CITYarts, Thomson Reuters, New York Photo Review.

In July 2016, the gallery relocated to a 6,000 square foot space on the Bowery next to the Bowery building which housed temporarily the International Center of Photography Museum and steps away from New Museum.

Due to the extensive time put forth in research, inventory, historical context and organization for each photography exhibition, many exhibitions travel to U.S. museums, galleries and venues abroad.  The gallery program encompasses art talks, private and corporate art consultation, as well as educational and non-profit collaborations.
